We officially began our MVP production sprints for Project Kingpin, our debut crime strategy game !!
That means the team is now focused on building the first playable version of the core experience. Our goal is simple: get players experiencing the game as soon as possible.
Not the final game & not every feature, but the foundation of the experience: building a criminal organization, operating inside a living city, making decisions with incomplete information, taking risks, and watching the consequences unfold.
This is an exciting step forward for Project Kingpin as an indie crime strategy game, gangster strategy game, and crime empire sim built around power, pressure, territory, and consequence.
Building the First Playable MVP Experience
This month, a lot of the work focused on bringing the foundation of the game to life.
At this stage, we are focused on the systems that matter most: how the player understands the city, how crews operate, how characters move and react, and how conflict starts to emerge.
The goal is not just to build isolated features. The goal is to create the first playable version of a living crime world where information, risk, and consequences all matter.
Fog of War and Information Gathering
We made major progress on fog of war, which is an important part of how players experience the city.
Project Kingpin is not a game where you instantly know everything happening around you. Information matters. You will need to discover what is happening in the city, learn where opportunities exist, understand where danger is building, and make decisions based on what you know — and what you do not know.
For a crime strategy game, that is a huge part of the fantasy. You are not just managing numbers. You are trying to read the streets, understand threats, and make smart moves before your rivals, law enforcement, or the city itself react.
Creating a Living City for a Crime Empire Sim
We also continued building out the city itself.
This includes the behind-the-scenes work that allows characters to move through the world, react to their surroundings, and behave in ways that make the city feel active instead of static.
It is not always the kind of work that looks flashy in screenshots, but it is the kind of foundation a game like Project Kingpin needs. The city is the game board. It needs to feel alive, reactive, and full of pressure.
As development continues, this foundation will support the larger vision: a living city where criminal operations, territory, opportunity, danger, and consequences all connect.
Crews, Characters, and the People Inside Your Organization
Another big focus was crews and characters.
Project Kingpin is not just about territory, money, and systems. It is about the people inside your organization. Your crew members need to move, act, respond, and eventually become assets, liabilities, and personalities inside your empire.
This month helped push that part of the game forward.
In the long run, we want your organization to feel like more than a collection of units. Crews should matter. Characters should matter. The people you rely on should help define the kind of empire you build.
Bringing Combat and Crew Conflict Online
We also began bringing combat online !!
Combat is not the whole game, but violence is an important part of the world. When crews clash, when pressure rises, or when a decision goes wrong, the game needs to support those moments.
The first version of that foundation is now taking shape, including crew-based encounters and the early structure for how conflict will play out in the city.
For Project Kingpin, combat is not just about action. It is about consequence. Violence should have weight. It should create risk, pressure, and new problems for the player to manage.
The Core Systems Are Starting to Connect
What is exciting about this stage is that the pieces are starting to connect.
Fog of war gives the player limited information.
The city gives the game a living board.
Characters and crews give the player people to manage.
Combat gives conflict real consequences.
Individually, these are systems. Together, they are the beginning of the complete Project Kingpin experience.
Project Kingpin Is Moving Toward Player Testing
The foundation is being built.
The city is starting to come alive.
And Project Kingpin is officially moving toward player testing !
This is still early, but it is a major step for the project. We are excited to keep building, keep sharing progress, and get the first version of Project Kingpin into players’ hands.
